As Malta prepares to host its first ever Eurovision event, 16 countries have signed up to take part in the Junior Eurovision Song Contest 2014 on the Mediterranean island. The event on the 15th of November will be the largest Junior Eurovision contest since 2007!
Returning to the competition this year are Cyprus and Serbia, who have also announced that they’ll re-join the Eurovision Song Contest next summer after a one year break each. Also back in Junior Eurovision are Bulgaria and Croatia, after absences of two and seven years respectively.
‘Big 5’ member RAI of Italy is one of three countries that will make its debut in Junior Eurovision, three years after it returned to the Eurovision Song Contest. Montenegro and Slovenia, who both qualified for the Eurovision Song Contest Grand Final this year, will also join them in Junior Eurovision for the first time.
Participants from 16 different countries, dubbed the ‘sensational sixteen’, will line up this November in Malta for the Junior Eurovision Song Contest – making it the biggest contest since 17 took part in Rotterdam in 2007.
“As Chair of the Junior Eurovision Steering Group, I’m very happy and grateful to Executive Supervisor Vladislav Yakovlev for all his hard work in securing the biggest number of participants for seven years,” said Ekaterina Orlova of Russian broadcaster RTR. “We are very excited about the competition in November”.
