“We are in hell right now, gentlemen, believe me, and we can stay here and get the shit kicked out of us or we can fight our way back into the light. We can climb out of hell. One inch, at a time”. It must not have been so different from this, the speech by Eusebio Di Francesco to his players before getting into the field against Chievo.
As Al Pacino plays in that memorable speech, from “Any given Sunday”, the only way out of hell, the retrocession nightmare, and to keep the hope alive, was to fight for every ball, inch by inch, as a real team, because only with this power it would have been possibile to conquer the tricky and rocky Corini’s team. The match staged at Bentegodi in Verona was a game in wich the blackgreen never pulled back. Sassuolo had patience and was able to score in the most difficult part of the match and to keep the result, thank to a commendable spirit of sacrifice, and it’s not so important that four yellow card players will not be in the game against Juventus, because in this game the contribution of everyone without conditions was essential, and so it was. Chievo began with the classic game plan of waiting the opposite team, but they were forced to change it, thanks to Di Francesco’s warriors, who found the right breach through the yellowblue wall, thans to two excellent plays on the line Floro Flores-Berardi. Chievo changed its attitude but Sassuolo defended with tooth and nail. Everyone gave his contribution to keep Pegolo’s goal inviolated, starting with the minister of the defense Paolo Cannavaro, switching to Antei, better than last week and finally to the midfielder. Not to forget the 300 matches in blackgreen by captain Magnanelli, the real leader of the team: his strength has to be the starting point for the remaining four finals, inch by inch, starting with the challenge to the “old lady” of Italian football, Juventus, because the way to the light is still long.
